Music connects
Concert of the music schools
Music unites - on November 9th, the day the Berlin Wall fell, the Wolfsburg and Halberstadt music schools performed a joint concert. The concert also marked the end of the anniversary year of the town twinning agreement that was signed between the two cities shortly before the border was opened in 1989. Halberstadt and Wolfsburg entered into this partnership 35 years ago. The concert was the highlight of an anniversary year full of events and reciprocal visits. Young musicians from both cities presented a varied program that made it possible to experience the unifying power of music across all borders.
The evening's program, which included works by Chopin, Tchaikovsky, Beethoven and Bach as well as film melodies such as the James Bond theme and the music from "Pirates of the Caribbean", was rounded off with rock and pop classics such as "Sympathy for the Devil" and "Ebony and Ivory". This musical diversity reflected the cultural breadth, depth and human exchange of the town twinning and brought the audience in Wolfsburg together. The evening showed in a wonderful way how melodies can unite across all differences and how the town twinning between Wolfsburg and Halberstadt is filled with life year after year.
In October, the 35th anniversary of the partnership was celebrated with a ceremony in Halberstadt town hall. The last citizens' trip of the year will take place on December 7. These trips illustrate the enduring friendship and unbroken exchange between the two cities.
