Aid for Ukraine

City of Wolfsburg and DRK Wolfsburg call for donations

More than two years after the escalation of the armed conflict in Ukraine, the humanitarian situation on the ground is still catastrophic. The city of Wolfsburg and the DRK Kreisverband Wolfsburg e. V. are therefore jointly appealing for donations. The money collected will be used to procure urgently needed relief supplies and to support long-term projects in Nizhyn and Zhovkva, both of which are Wolfsburg solidarity partnerships. The provision and coordination is carried out in cooperation with the German Red Cross (DRK) in Berlin and the Ukrainian Red Cross. Thanks to the experience of the aid organizations and their exchange, the donations can be used efficiently.

The ongoing armed conflict in Ukraine has put many people in an emergency situation. The towns of Nizhyn and Shovkva, which would like to maintain a lasting friendship with Wolfsburg beyond the conflict, are also affected. Among other things, the donations will be used to support the establishment of a home care service and the procurement of the necessary medical supplies. As part of this project, single senior citizens and people with disabilities will be reached and supported. These are among the most vulnerable population groups and are all the more dependent on help in this conflict.

"The solidarity and willingness to donate of our citizens can make a decisive difference," emphasizes Dennis Weilmann, Lord Mayor of the City of Wolfsburg. "Through our solidarity partnerships, we have a special connection to Nizhyn and Zhovkva. Especially in these difficult times, it is important to show humanity and stick together."

"We want to use monetary donations to buy the urgently needed goods locally in a targeted and efficient manner," explains Thorsten Rückert, Board Member of the Wolfsburg District Association of the German Red Cross, Ralf Krüger, Chairman of the Council, for whom this project is a matter close to his heart, adds: "This also saves us the high transportation costs and allows us to provide aid more quickly and directly. Every donation, whether large or small, helps to alleviate the suffering of the local people."

"The DRK Wolfsburg District Association is in close contact with the DRK Federal Association in Berlin and the Ukrainian Red Cross in Kiev to ensure that the donations arrive quickly and effectively where they are most urgently needed," adds Thorsten Rückert, Board Member of the DRK Wolfsburg District Association.
