City library in the Bildungshaus Wolfsburg
Since 1962, the city library in the world-famous Alvar Aalto House of Culture in the middle of the city center has been a reliable point of contact for the people of Wolfsburg when it comes to information and media provision.
In the Alvar-Aalto-Kulturhaus, we are represented by the Central Library and the Children's and Youth Library on the first floor. Together with 5 library branches in the Wolfsburg districts of Detmerode, Nordstadt (at Hansaplatz), Fallersleben, Vorsfelde and in Westhagen, 4 libraries in school centers and a mobile library, we span a dense library network across Wolfsburg.
"We are open to everyone" - during opening hours at the respective locations and also online with our online services, which are available to you around the clock.
Upon presentation of a valid ID card - in exceptional cases, another official ID card may be sufficient, if necessary in conjunction with a confirmation of registration - we will issue you a library card, the so-called BildungshausCard. The BildungshausCard is not transferable to other persons and is needed for borrowing media in the entire library network and for using the Onleihe, the databases and the interlibrary loan. It is not needed to use the library and its media on site. Nevertheless, we recommend that you always have your BildungshausCard with you.
Minors need the written consent of their legal guardian for registration, as soon as they have reached the age of 18, additionally a valid identity card.
For the borrowing of media, we charge a user fee for adults (21 years and older) who register. This fee is lower for pupils and students 21 years and older who present proof of age. Borrowing is free of charge for:
- Adolescents up to the age of 21.
- Individuals involved in children's and youth work, for example kindergartens
- Beneficiaries with a valid social security card
Loss of the BildungshausCard/changes
In your own interest, please contact us immediately if you ever lose your BildungshausCard or if a name or address changes. We charge a fee for issuing a replacement card. The City Library's Schedule of Usage and Fees applies.
