Data Warehouse
The data warehouse is a Smart City project from the digital & data infrastructure field of action. The aim of the project is to set up centralized specialist data storage in the statistics office to support decision-making processes in politics and administration. The central collection of data also serves as the basis for a public statistical information portal, the "Wolfsburg Online Municipal Statistics" (WOKS).
The data warehouse uses data from the specialist databases of the city of Wolfsburg (e.g. residents' registration office, schools division or social affairs division) as well as data from the state and federal government. The service is supplemented by our own surveys. By analyzing and processing the data, the data warehouse supports data-based planning and decision-making processes. With the help of dashboards and automated reports, data is made available in a standardized, comprehensible and transparent manner. This creates access to quality-checked data and generates knowledge that is useful for internal administrative planning and management as well as for the urban community.
Evaluations based on the data warehouse are cataloged by topic in the WOKS information portal and made publicly available to a broad user base. For example, interested parties can gain an insight into comprehensive data from the areas of the labor market and economy, construction and housing, population or leisure and tourism. One of the portal's basic ideas is to provide municipal statistical data and information for free reuse in the spirit of open data.
With the data warehouse, the Wolfsburg municipal statistics department has succeeded in improving data availability and integrity within the city administration. Further data is added and updated on an ongoing basis.
