Digital twin

The digital twin project describes a digital image of the city of Wolfsburg and at the same time a platform that is to be used in future for urban planning decisions. The platform integrates action-space-related data from various specialist areas in order to create a long-term tool for the visualization and simulation of urban development issues. With the help of simulations and analyses, the development of scenarios is to be made easier, more comprehensible and clearer. Once all the necessary data has been successfully integrated, questions such as Where can new green spaces be created? or What impact will the construction of a new building have on the local microclimate? can be answered. The aim is to make waste, green space, urban forest, water and traffic management more effective and time-saving. At the same time, interdisciplinary administrative action is to be strengthened.

On Saturday, February 24 and Sunday, February 25, the thermographic flight for the digital (climate) twin of the city of Wolfsburg was successfully carried out. During a thermographic flight, thermal imaging cameras are used to take thermal images of the earth's surface. The thermal images are used to generate heat emission maps, which are then used to create geographical climate analyses and urban climate reports. Two thermal imaging flights are to be carried out for the city - one in winter and one in summer. The analyses of the thermal images from these measurement flights will show the exact temperature distribution in the urban area. The results will be incorporated into the digital twin and will also form a basis for municipal heat planning and the heat action plan.
