Strengthening Wolfsburg's economy
Lord Mayor Dennis Weilmann presents 10-point plan
"Wolfsburg is and will remain the economic engine of the region and the country. The city will continue to support SMEs, the local economy and Volkswagen in the best possible way in the future," says Lord Mayor Dennis Weilmann, explaining the economic agenda.
City as an active shaper
The focus of the 10-point plan is on the city administration as an active shaper. The economic agenda contains specific measures, projects and priorities that will set the course for the coming years in order to keep Wolfsburg strong and attractive as a business location.
"We are currently experiencing many upheavals and uncertainties. As a result, this mixed situation also has a direct impact on the economic structure of our region," adds Jens Hofschröer, Head of Digital and Economic Affairs and Managing Director of WMG. "We therefore want to create the best possible conditions for everyone, be it young start-ups, family businesses or corporations and their employees, who can make a difference in our city and contribute to employment, growth and innovation."
Business friendliness, innovation location and commercial space
The 10-point plan is broadly based and considers both original municipal tasks as well as areas in which the city administration can provide important impetus. One of the central points is business friendliness: Wolfsburg already received the best rating in a representative IHK survey - and that is precisely why the city is not letting up. The aim is to become even more service-oriented. On the one hand, this means intensifying the direct line between companies and administration and, on the other, optimizing interfaces within the administration and using digital processes.
In addition, business premises are to be made available in line with demand. The Heinenkamp Ost and Heinenkamp West business parks play a key role in this. At the same time, the foundations have been laid for further large and contiguous industrial and commercial areas - a clear competitive advantage.
Wolfsburg is also being expanded as a location for innovation. A transformation also brings with it considerable opportunities that need to be exploited. Building on the existing research and innovation power, value creation potential is to be leveraged. To achieve this, a science network is to be founded and established. In addition, the science concept for the future that has already been developed will be implemented and Wolfsburg will be promoted as an innovation location for charging infrastructure.
