Waters of the first order are waters of considerable importance for water management, such as inland waterways. The Uelzen Water and Shipping Authority is responsible for maintenance. In the city of Wolfsburg, only the Mittelandkanal is a water body of the first order.
Water bodies II. These waters are of supra-local importance for the area of a maintenance association (UHV) and have been defined by ordinance by the water authority. These waters are maintained by maintenance associations (UHV).
The following UHVs are responsible for the Wolfsburg municipal area:
- UHV Oberaller
- UHV Schunter
Third-order watercourses are the remaining watercourses that drain several properties and do not serve a superordinate purpose. Maintenance is the responsibility of the respective owner or the riparian owners or the water and soil associations in their association area.
