Communication

The Communications Department is the "control center" for city-wide communications and the central contact for press and public relations work for the city of Wolfsburg.

The department traditionally deals with press relations. The colleagues are the first point of contact for the local and national media for all questions relating to the city administration's public relations work.

Even though traditional press work remains important, there are now a number of other communication channels that the city of Wolfsburg uses. For example, the Communications department also coordinates the city's website, the city's accounts on social media channels and comprehensive campaigns with posters, brochures, marketing articles, promotions and events.

The Communications department also manages an intranet for the more than 4,000 employees of the City of Wolfsburg.

The Communications department is headed by Lars Michael Vollmering.

  • Press and media relations

The Communications Department with Press and Media Relations is the newsroom of City Hall and reports directly to the Lord Mayor. It is from here that dialog with the media is conducted and important city issues are reported on.
The press team sets its own priorities that are of importance to the city as a whole. Newspapers, magazines, radio and television are used to inform not only citizens, but also professionals, business people and visitors to the city.

Press releases are sent not only to local and regional media, but also nationwide. Press conferences are held on important topics.

The press office also receives media inquiries, which are answered on a daily basis. The city is obliged to do this under the Basic Law and the State Press Law. In these cases, the employees of the press office are particularly dependent on their colleagues from the other organizational units of the city administration, who can provide further technical assistance in detail.

Topics can be communicated not only through the press, but also through a variety of other communication channels. In order to reach as many relevant target groups as possible, the City of Wolfsburg is also increasingly using its own publications such as posters, brochures, marketing articles, campaigns and events, or even the many possibilities offered by the Internet.
