Financial support for care

We inform and advise you about your entitlements to assistance in the event of need for long-term care.

If you are dependent on the help of others due to health impairments, under certain circumstances you have a claim to assistance for care according to the Twelfth Book of the Social Code (SGB XII) in addition to the claims from the long-term care insurance. The reason for the need can be physical, cognitive or mental impairments or health-related burdens or requirements that cannot be compensated and managed independently. The determination of whether and to what extent there is a need for care is made by the Medical Service (MD), which is commissioned by your long-term care insurance. You can obtain more information about the assessment procedure from your long-term care insurance company. The Medical Service (MD) determines your need for long-term care. Your responsible long-term care insurance fund is then responsible for assuming the costs of care. However, depending on the type of service, the costs are only covered by the long-term care insurance up to certain maximum limits. If it is not possible for you to cover the uncovered remaining costs, social assistance benefits (SGB XII) - such as assistance for nursing care - may be considered, taking into account the MD's findings.

If you do not have long-term care insurance and therefore do not receive a report from the MD and no classification in a care degree by the long-term care insurance fund, the social welfare agency can commission an appropriate assessment. You will only receive long-term care assistance if your income and assets (or those of your spouse or partner) are insufficient. Dependents will be taken into account if their annual gross income is more than 100,000.00 EUR, see also the Act on the Relief of Dependents in Social Welfare and Integration Assistance (the so-called Relief of Dependents Act).

The team of the help for care will be glad to advise you on the topics.
