General information
Stair sweeping
The so-called stair sweeping in front of the town hall is also a popular custom in Wolfsburg, where unmarried men are obliged on their 30th birthday to clean a public building staircase (preferably the town hall staircase). The custom originally comes from Bremen and originated there with the so-called Domtreppenfegen.
Cleaning doorsteps
Single ladies are obliged to "clean the doorsteps" on their 30th birthday. Unfortunately, this ritual is not possible in order to protect the town hall door, which is worthy of preservation.
We recommend as an alternative to mount one or more handles on a separate board or door, which can then be cleaned in front of the town hall.

Deadlines
Sweeping the stairs and cleaning the door handles in front of the town hall should be announced by phone or e-mail, if possible, one week in advance.
If there are no other appointments, sweeping or cleaning is possible at the stairs of the town hall. In exceptional cases, there are alternative possibilities at the fountain area.

Other notes
All used materials (crown caps, wood chips, sand, etc.) must be removed completely after the action.
Please do not use paper, metal confetti or styrofoam of any kind, as the materials are easily carried around by the wind and thus pollute the environment. A complete sweeping up is not possible with the mentioned materials.
