Apply for vehicle exemption for motor vehicles and trailers

  • General information

If deviations from the construction and operating regulations of the Road Traffic Licensing Regulations or the Vehicle Licensing Ordinance have been identified on your motor vehicle or trailer by experts, you must apply for a special permit.

The registration authority will assign the registration number to your vehicle and determine the size of the registration number in the case of design-related deviations on motor vehicles. It may be necessary to present the vehicle before a special permit is issued (if it is a license plate that is not intended for the vehicle category).

The issued exemption permit must be carried when driving and handed over to the responsible persons for inspection on request.

An exemption permit is usually issued after the vehicle has been registered and will be sent to you by post.
