General information
According to the vehicle registration ordinance, the owner is obliged to notify his competent registration authority immediately when selling a vehicle.
Therefore, please note the following if you wish to sell your vehicle:When selling a vehicle, there are an increasing number of cases in which the purchaser of a vehicle does not fulfill his obligation to deregister or re-register the vehicle. The consequence is that the owner must continue to pay the vehicle tax and possibly also the insurance. This is especially the case if the buyer cannot be identified due to incorrect or illegible data.
How can you protect yourself as a seller against this?
Completely fill out and sign the purchase contract or the notice of sale (also the buyer), send that document promptly (in copy) to us.
Please fill in the sales contract and/or the sale advertisement yourself completely and legibly and check the data of the buyer (name and address) on the basis of his ID.The safest protection is to decommission the vehicle before handing it over to the buyer. You can find more information about the service here - Decommissioning
According to the Road Traffic Act, the registered owner of the vehicle is responsible for the vehicle.
If you provide us with the purchase contract or the notice of sale (fully completed and signed), in which the buyer undertakes to deregister or re-register the vehicle within a certain period of time, the registration office can request the buyer to deregister or re-register the vehicle after the specified period of time has expired. However, this procedure is subject to deadlines and takes a long time if the buyer does not fulfill his obligations. You can then sue the buyer under private law, but you will still have to pay tax and possibly insurance.
The buyer has the option of transferring the vehicle with a short-term license plate or exporting it with an export license plate.
