Half a century ago, the city of Wolfsburg began purchasing art. Initially intended as wall decorations for the offices, the collected works soon blossomed into an art collection with its own distinctive profile. The focus of the collection is on works from the field of German art.

The modern collection is housed in the magnificent Renaissance building of Wolfsburg Castle, one of the oldest architectural monuments in Lower Saxony. Historical architecture and contemporary art enter into an exciting dialog in the exhibition rooms. Visitors can take a break from their everyday lives here and associate the castle with special experiences.
