Rose Wylie - Pink Girls, Yellow Curls paintings and drawings
The central starting point for Rose Wylie's works are her personal memories and experiences, combined with moment impressions from films. She refers to images and perceptions from art and contemporary history, revising her drawings again and again, collaging and reassembling until she reaches a satisfactory result. By combining images from various sources with personal elements, Rose Wylie creates a direct and ironic commentary on contemporary visual culture. The Städtische Galerie Wolfsburg is the first museum in Germany to present a selection of her work.
Rose Wylie was born in Kent in 1934 and studied at the Folkestone and Dover School of Art in the 1950s. She did not finish her studies until 25 years later at the Royal College of Art, after her children had grown up, and therefore started her artistic career late.
