Discover art during your lunch break or while shopping on Porschestraße: With "Art at Hempel", the special exhibition format of the M2K of the city of Wolfsburg is taking place for the third time. From February 8 to 23, the artists Paola Massei and Angelika Flaig will enter into a creative dialog in the outside shop windows of the Hempel fashion store.
Paola Massei's emotive and colorful paintings meet Angelika Flaig's cool stone-printed figurative graphics and metal installations. Paola Massei uses pigments, ash, sand and other materials to create her paintings on canvas, which refer to the formative inherent forces of the earth. Her artistic theme is particularly recognizable in the spirited, gestural work "Outburst", which is her largest work in this exhibition. Massei not only visualizes powerful natural forces such as volcanic eruptions, ice sheets or rains of ash and fire, but also creates strong emotions.
In contrast, Angelika Flaig's human figures linger in fictitious landscape fragments, some of which take on the character of still lifes. The performance artist Angelika Flaig accompanies her productions photographically and prints these snapshots of the stone on white handmade paper, creating abstract graphic pictorial spaces. Flaig's metal installations look like steel grasses that position themselves as lines in space and seem to run on into Paola Massei's deserted landscapes. The works of the two artists connect and speak to each other. This dialog is also continued in the shop window space: The figures are reminiscent of mannequins that had to leave their usual "living space" for a short time for the artistic project. The surfaces of Paola Massei's paintings find their counterparts in the salesroom in the colors of the garments previously presented there.
The M2K and the artists invite everyone in Wolfsburg to the vernissage of "Kunst bei Hempel" on Saturday, February 8 at 11:00 a.m. in front of the shop windows of the Hempel fashion store in Porschestraße. In addition, Frank Schöpke will accompany the vernissage musically on the saxophone and enter into an improvised musical dialog with the works on display.
