Solidarity partnerships are supported
In September 2023, the city of Wolfsburg entered into solidarity partnerships with the Ukrainian cities of Shovkva and Nizhyn. The aim is to support both cities as required. In this context, four decommissioned vehicles from the Green Division and Wolfsburg's drainage companies were handed over to both cities in spring 2024. Two further projects are now about to be realized.
Together with the city of Nizhyn, the city of Wolfsburg is taking part in the German International Cooperation (GIZ) project for civil protection and reconstruction. In this project, material goods with a total value of 120,000 euros are being procured in consultation with the Ukrainian city. The city of Nizhyn expressed the need for solar lamps as well as vehicles and equipment for the building yard. The goods will be procured by GIZ. The city of Wolfsburg will pay for the onward transportation to the Ukrainian partner municipality. The plan is to transport all the goods to the city of Nizhyn in December 2024.
Together with the city of Shovkva, the city of Wolfsburg applied for funding from the small project fund. There is a need for a coach to transport pupils to sports lessons. The funding is provided in the form of pro rata financing. The city of Wolfsburg was granted over 47,000 euros for this project. The support offer is being implemented by the Service Agency Communities in One World (SKEW) of Engagement Global on behalf of and with funding from the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development. The coach is scheduled to be transferred to the Ukrainian city of Nizhyn in December 2024. Further funding from the small project fund is to be applied for in the coming year.
The Wolfsburg district branch of the German Red Cross (DRK) initiated a donation account for the Wolfsburg solidarity cities of Nizhyn and Shovkva in consultation with the DRK General Secretariat in Berlin and the city of Wolfsburg. Among other things, the donations will be used to support the establishment of a home care service that reaches single senior citizens and people with disabilities. The project is being set up and coordinated jointly with the General Secretariat of the German Red Cross in Berlin and the Ukrainian Red Cross. Thanks to the experience of the aid organizations and their exchange, the donations can be distributed more efficiently.
Further information on the subject of donations to Ukraine and the donation account can be found on the city's website at wolfsburg.de/spendenukraine.
