In the frenzy of the tulips
Guided tour of the exhibition at the Hoffmann von Fallersleben Museum
The Hoffmann von Fallersleben Museum in the M2K is currently intoxicated. The occasion is the exhibition Die mir das Herz verbrennt. The intoxication of tulips. Curator Nicole Trnka will be talking about the intoxicating cultural history of tulips, their successful journey from Central Asia via the Ottoman Empire to Europe and the world and to the Hoffmann Museum on a tour next Thursday evening, March 6, at 6:30 pm. Admission is 3.50 euros, 3 euros for pensioners/senior citizens and a reduced rate of 2.50 euros for schoolchildren, apprentices and students, for example.
The Berlin photographer, collector and exhibition organizer Volker Weinhold collects various everyday objects with tulip motifs, from furniture and film posters to wooden and porcelain figurines. He combines and stages these in front of his camera with different varieties of tulips in all colors. In doing so, he takes his inspiration from historical tulip painting. In the 17th century, these flowers and their bulbs enchanted our Dutch neighbors to the point of mania, causing many to speculate on house and home. Those who couldn't raise enough "small change" back then bought slightly cheaper tulip paintings.
