Wolfsburg blossoms
Spring planting brings color to the city

The spring planting in the city center and at other selected locations in the city area has already been carried out. For example, a total of 4,200 pansies have been planted in tubs, including 1,000 at the Wolfsburg lettering at Detmeroder Kreuz. The trainees from the green area were also involved here. From mid-March, further pansies will be added at selected locations.
Numerous flower bulbs were also planted last fall so that tulips, daffodils and crocuses will bloom in various places in the city in the coming weeks. Some of these heralds of spring were even planted many years ago and provide colorful accents every year.
This year, the castle knot and the baroque garden will once again be redesigned with summer flowers. As in previous years, however, this planting will not take place until after the ice saints, from mid-May. "To reduce the amount of care and watering required, many of these plantings are given a mineral mulch layer of sand or crushed stone material. Over time, the plants will grow through this completely and it does not seal the surface," emphasizes Stefanie Jäger-Wilke, Head of the Green Division.
Last year, a number of beds were planted with permanent perennials instead of summer flowers in the pedestrian zone south of the town hall and at the art museum. As a result, new life is created here early in the year and the areas offer sustainable and low-maintenance greenery.
The lively, colorful and sustainable cityscape not only welcomes spring, but is also an important place for insects and bees in particular.
