Wolfsburg remains stable
Population at highest level since reunification

Since 2022, there has also been a trend reversal in migration between our city and the surrounding area. Since then, more people have been moving to Wolfsburg again (2024: 6,536) than from Wolfsburg to the surrounding area (2024: 6,058). This means that we have a positive net migration of 478 residents.
"Wolfsburg remains stable: the population has hardly changed in recent years. This shows that we are an attractive place to live and work - with a good balance between inward migration and existing residents," commented Lord Mayor Dennis Weilmann.
More deaths than births
However, the so-called "natural population trend" - in which births are counted against deaths - continues to show a negative trend. Although both the number of births (1,074; 2023: 1,077) and the number of deaths (1,639; 2023: 1,628) remain constant, the number of deaths has been at a high level for a few years, resulting in an increasingly negative natural population trend of -565 people (2023: -551; 2019: -158).
