More green for Wolfsburg's heart
Ideas for Rathausplatz and Kleistpark are presented to the public
The two planning offices scape Landschaftsarchitekten and Latz und Partner are presenting their ideas for the redesign of Kleistpark and part of Rathausplatz to the public online and at an on-site meeting.

"Rathausplatz offers enormous potential that we want to exploit in the future. The planned redesign will not only make this area more attractive, but will also be an example of the future-oriented and climate-adapted development of our city center," says Lord Mayor Dennis Weilmann. As a green oasis in the city center, the Kleistpark should also offer more quality of stay and a variety of uses in the future.
First City Councillor and City Planning Councillor Kai-Uwe Hirschheide is hoping for lively public participation: "We are very excited to see how the ideas are received by the citizens. Our aim is to redesign Rathausplatz and Kleistpark in such a way that people enjoy spending time there, revitalize the areas in the city centre as a whole and make them more resilient and ecological."
Citizens are invited to view the designs for Kleistpark on Friday, March 28, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Haus der Jugend (Kleiststraße 33). The focus will be on routing for cyclists and pedestrians, attractive sports, play and cultural areas, catering facilities and ecological enhancement. On Saturday, March 29, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., citizens can find out how the planners envision the town hall square in the future in the council chamber of the town hall. The basic idea: more greenery, more opportunities to linger and the creation of a water feature.
Citizens can also take part in the "Kleistpark Green Oasis" and "Rathausplatz Climate Laboratory" projects online: www.wolfsburg.de/kleistpark and www.wolfsburg.de/rathausplatz, respectively, will run for three weeks from March 20. Both projects will be implemented until the end of 2027 with funding from the Resilient Inner Cities program of the Lower Saxony Ministry for Federal and European Affairs and Regional Development as part of the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) as well as funds from the municipal budget.
