Wolfsburg is looking for volunteers

Reopening of the district libraries

The district libraries in Vorsfelde, Fallersleben and Nordstadt are to be reopened to everyone this year after the summer vacation. After a long period of closure due to staff shortages, planning for the reopening is now beginning.

With the council's decision in June 2024 and the filling of the new position of volunteer coordinator in February 2025, the call for committed citizens has now begun: We are looking for motivated volunteers to ensure the opening hours of the district libraries, assist with lending and turn the libraries into inviting meeting places.

"The planned reopening of our district libraries impressively demonstrates how indispensable volunteer work is for our city," emphasizes Lord Mayor Dennis Weilmann. "The district libraries are places where people can come together and learn from each other. Their reopening is an important step towards strengthening the city districts. Without the active support of volunteers, such a step would not be possible. My special thanks go to everyone who is involved in the libraries and beyond throughout Wolfsburg."

An adapted training concept provides all interested parties with the most important knowledge about library work and ensures that everything runs smoothly. There is also the opportunity to contribute and implement your own ideas for events such as games afternoons, senior citizens' meetings or reading events.

Iris Bothe, Head of Department for Youth, Education, Integration and Social Affairs, says: "Our district libraries are important places where people can find knowledge, education and social contacts. They help to promote reading, learn languages and offer services for all age groups. The reopening of these libraries strengthens cultural and social life in our districts."

Anyone who would like to volunteer and become part of the library team can contact the city library now. If you are interested or have any questions, the city library team will be happy to help - by phone at 05361282530 or by email at stadtbibliothek@bildungshaus-wolfsburg.de.
