More support for children with school problems
In Wolfsburg, the number of children who are absent from school is increasing - often due to fear, excessive demands or a lack of support. The city of Wolfsburg, the Regional State Office for Schools and Education and the schools have joined forces to provide targeted help. School integration management (SEM) has been in place since 2022, which gradually helps children and young people return to school life. At the 2nd SEM symposium, teachers, social workers, youth welfare experts and school officials met to develop concrete solutions. For the first time, real, anonymized cases from Wolfsburg were discussed in order to develop practical help.
Experience shows that a gradual re-entry works best - with individual support and a gradual increase in teaching time. It is important that children feel comfortable at school and reduce their anxiety. Parents also need support with questions such as: "What should I do if my child doesn't want to go to school?" The city of Wolfsburg is sending out a clear signal with its Strategic Education Management department: No child should be left alone. More information is available at: wolfsburg.de/inklusion.
