Traffic concept for the city center - online participation and pedestrian traffic check

It is not only the urban appearance of our city center that is set to change in the near future. This is also accompanied by the need to further develop the traffic there. For this reason, we are developing a corresponding traffic concept and would like to find out more about the mobility behavior of citizens, commuters and schoolchildren in the city center as a baseline.

"Several major projects such as the Nordkopfquartier Mitte, BRAWO City and a new central bus station are planned," says Lord Mayor Dennis Weilmann, "this will significantly change our city center in the coming years." He emphasizes that wishes from local politicians such as a car-free Willy-Brandt-Platz, a stronger connection between the Designer Outlets Wolfsburg (DOW) and Porschestraße and more revitalization and quality of life in the city centre also make a traffic concept for the city centre necessary.

From March 13 to 31, all interested parties can take part in an online survey at wolfsburg.de/verkehrinnenstadt and at the same time interactively enter their suggestions on a map, which can then be commented on by other participants. It's worth taking part - WeCards worth 30 euros each will be raffled off among all participants.

At the same time, we are once again focusing specifically on pedestrian traffic. On Friday, March 14, interested citizens are invited to a pedestrian traffic check in the city center. The meeting point is the crosswalk on the forecourt of Wolfsburg Central Station at 2:30 pm.

First City Councillor and City Planning Councillor Kai-Uwe Hirschheide is hoping for a lively turnout: "We need citizens as everyday experts. Their perspectives are crucial to developing future-proof and consensus-based mobility solutions."

Along a fixed route of around two kilometers, various aspects of pedestrian traffic will be discussed and supplemented with expert contributions on traffic planning. The two-hour pedestrian traffic check will be carried out by the planning office VIA eG from Cologne, which was commissioned to create a pedestrian traffic concept with a focus on the city center. Representatives of the administration and local politicians will also be present.
