Economic bridge near Hattorf closed
The bridge over the Heiligendorferbach to the south of Hattorf (in the extension of Bäckerstraße) will be fully closed to agricultural traffic as well as cyclists and pedestrians from Monday, March 31. The reason for the full closure is that the bridge needs to be renewed and the cramped conditions on site do not allow any other method of working. The city currently expects the closure to last four months. During this time, the farm roads behind the bridge can only be accessed from the direction of Beienrode.
The renewal of the bridge is necessary to ensure road safety for commercial traffic. The bridge has been in an unsatisfactory condition for some time and now needs to be replaced. Among other things, the wooden supporting structure is infested with a fungus and the statics of the steel girders are also critical, meaning that both need to be replaced. The city of Wolfsburg has so far and will continue to keep the bridge safe for traffic until it has been renovated.
