Park bridge over the Hasselbach
The city of Wolfsburg will completely replace the park bridge over the Hasselbach at Köhlerberg, which was built in 2003. The reason for this is progressive fungal infestation, which has increasingly affected the supporting structure in recent years. The entire work is scheduled to take around four weeks. The closure can be bypassed for a short time via the Berliner Ring or the park path along the VW pool.
Due to regular maintenance measures, the wooden bridge was able to remain in operation until recently. However, the latest structural inspection has now revealed that the wooden longitudinal beams and railings in particular are badly damaged. The city has therefore decided to completely dismantle the structure and have it replaced by the municipal road maintenance depot. The work will begin after Easter. The old bridge will be dismantled first, then the concrete abutments will be repaired and finally the new bridge - based on the existing structure - will be erected.
