The decision to cancel classes at general and vocational schools is made by the school authorities, i.e. the City of Wolfsburg. If sudden black ice or freezing rain, heavy snowfall, flooding or heavy storms mean that pupils cannot get to school safely, the City of Wolfsburg can decide to cancel regular classes on that day either for grades 1-4, 1-10 or for all general and vocational schools citywide.
Following a decision to cancel classes, the City will provide information through the following City of Wolfsburg communication channels:
- Wolfsburg homepage
Information will be provided as early as possible, usually between 05:00 and 05:30 a.m.
Additionally you will be informed via...
- Radio stations (NDR, FFN, ...) in the course of traffic announcements after the news
- Lower Saxony Traffic Management Center

Which schools are affected by a possible cancellation of classes will be announced in the appropriate message at the top of the page. These may include:
- General education schools: All elementary schools, secondary schools, high schools, comprehensive schools, special education schools, and grammar schools
- Vocational schools
As a general rule, parents or guardians of primary and lower secondary school students who fear that their children will be unreasonably endangered on the way to school due to extreme weather conditions may keep their children at home or pick them up early from school even if no general cancellation of classes has been ordered. However, the child must be excused to school, as is customary in the case of illness. However, darkness, rain or light snowfall are not sufficient excuses.
Schools shall provide care during normal school hours for students who come to school despite the ordered cancellation of classes.
