Documents for registration of marriage

Here you will find a list of the documents required to register the marriage. However, which documents are required for the marriage registration always depends on the individual case and your personal circumstances.

Please understand that this information is non-binding and the submission of further documents may be required. If you or your partner have a foreign nationality, please make an appointment for information about the required documents at the registry office.

Who? What documents do you need to submit? Notes and remarks
1 Both fiancées Valid identity card or passport
2 Both fiancées Current extended registration certificate of the main residence
 If the place of residence is in Wolfsburg, we will prepare this for you.
3 Both fiancées Current certified copy from the register of births from the registry office of your place of birth (if you were born in Wolfsburg, we will prepare this for you).
  • Note: Please note that the transcript from the birth register is not a birth certificate!
  • The certified copy from the birth register should not be older than 6 months.
  • In individual cases, it must be clarified with the registrar whether an older certified copy from the birth register is sufficient.
  • If changes have occurred since the certified copy from the birth register was issued (e.g. adoption, change of name), a certified copy containing these changes must be submitted.
4 Partner, if he/she was already married In addition to the above certified transcript:

A transcript from the marriage register of the previous marriage with an entry on the dissolution of the marriage or a marriage certificate and the divorce decree with a legal effect note.
5 Do you already have a child together? The child's birth certificate and, if applicable, proof of an already submitted acknowledgement of paternity/declaration of custody.
