Benefits under the Federal Training Act (BAföG)
Pupils at certain types of schools and students have a legal entitlement to benefits under the BAföG if they do not otherwise have the means to support themselves and their education.
BAföG is generally dependent on the income and assets of the trainee, income of the spouse and parents. Trainees with a vocational qualification and/or certain periods of gainful employment as well as college students are supported independently of their parents.
Pupils
Under certain conditions, the City of Wolfsburg supports students at secondary general schools and vocational schools, including classes in basic vocational training from grade 10, technical and vocational secondary schools, vocational colleges, evening secondary schools, postsecondary vocational schools, evening secondary schools and evening high schools, as well as colleges.
An application is required, which must always be submitted to the BAföG office at the parents' place of residence. When attending evening grammar schools and colleges, the application must be submitted to the BAföG office at the school location.
Students
Students are sponsored by the student services at the place of study and submit the application there.
