Help for people in need of care

According to the German Social Code XI (social long-term care insurance), people are in need of care if they have health-related impairments to their independence or abilities and therefore require help from others. They must be people who are unable to independently compensate for or cope with physical, cognitive or mental impairments or health-related burdens or demands.

These must be permanent, i.e. expected to last for at least 6 months.

Depending on the impairment of independence or abilities, people in need of care are assigned to one of five care levels. The higher the level of care, the higher the benefits.

To determine the need for care, you must submit an "application for care benefits" to your care insurance fund (this is usually the health insurance fund). The insurance company will have the Medical Service check whether the requirements for the need for care are met and which level of care will be determined.

In the following table, you will find the respective long-term care insurance benefits assigned to the five care degrees.

If you do not have long-term care insurance and there is no possibility that you will be accepted into long-term care insurance, you can contact the Social Services Division to apply for long-term care benefits.

If you have any questions about care services, the assessment procedure by the medical service or for information on providers in Wolfsburg, please contact the senior citizens and care support center of the city of Wolfsburg. Here you will receive comprehensive, free and neutral advice on all care-related topics.
