Office starts planning the redesign of KleistparkGreen space around the indoor pool to offer more quality of stay in future
Kleistpark is to become a green oasis and offer more quality of stay and a variety of open space options in future. This is the aim of the Kleistpark Green Oasis project as part of the Resilient Inner Cities funding program. The planning office scape Landschaftsarchitekten from Düsseldorf has now been selected to implement the project. A corresponding contract is to be signed by the end of November.
"Making our city center more attractive is one of our central themes. The upgrading of the Kleistpark will contribute precisely to this. We are creating a place here that invites people to linger and contributes to increasing the quality of life in the entire city center," affirms Lord Mayor Dennis Weilmann. "Our aim is to complete the redesign of a section of Kleistpark by the end of 2027," says First City Councillor and City Planning Councillor Kai-Uwe Hirschheide, outlining the further schedule.
"This is an exciting project for us because it involves the revitalization of underused urban spaces. The Kleistpark is more or less in a deep sleep, but it has great potential," emphasizes planner Matthias Funk from scape Landschaftsarchitekten. Employees of the firm came to Wolfsburg for the kick-off workshop on November 5 to discuss the requirements with representatives of the relevant authorities. The basic principles are to be determined and the cost framework reviewed by the end of 2024. The decision on the project is to be presented to the council in spring 2025.
An appraisal process had already been carried out as part of the previous Perspektive Innenstadt! The task was to create a design and usage concept for the gradual implementation of an attractive inner-city district park. With funds from the funding program and the municipal budget, this result is to be followed by in-depth design planning and the park will then be redesigned accordingly.

Planning for Kleistpark green oasis becomes more concreteLandscape planning office to be commissioned in late summer 2024 if possible
Kleistpark is to be developed into a green oasis with a high quality of stay and a variety of open spaces as part of the Resilient City Centers funding programme. The design planning will cost €140,000 more than estimated in 2023. These additional costs will be presented to the council for a decision at its next meeting.
"Once a planning office has been chosen, it will be commissioned as soon as possible," says First City Councillor and City Planning Councillor Kai-Uwe Hirschheide. The decision on the project is to be presented to the council in spring 2025 and the redesign of a section of Kleistpark is to be completed by 2027.
As a first step, an appraisal process had already been carried out as part of the previous Perspektive Innenstadt! funding program - with the aim of creating a design and usage concept for the gradual implementation of an attractive inner-city neighbourhood park.
With funds from the funding program and the municipal budget, this result is to be followed by in-depth design planning and the park will then be redesigned accordingly. Stricter public procurement regulations made it necessary to launch an additional award procedure with a solution approach. The aim is to find a suitable landscape planning office that can be commissioned directly in late summer 2024.
Overall, the cost framework of the funding applied for will not be exceeded, but there will be a cost shift within the project. The planning area has also been extended. This is to ensure that possible subsequent construction phases build on the design planning in a meaningful way and seamlessly connect to a construction phase that has already been completed.
