HP Room
November 29, 2014 - March 29, 2015
HP Zimmer (1936 to 1992) lived in Braunschweig and was a professor there at the Hochschule der Bildenden Künste from 1982 until his early death in 1992. The extraordinary work of HP Zimmer has rarely been shown since the early 1990s - and when it has, it has usually been in connection with the group SPUR. The planned exhibition is the first museum presentation in over 20 years.
Early paintings by HP Zimmer are characterized by great color intensity and density. Absurd grotesque figures intertwine into a lively spectacle. After 1968, the colorful lyricism of his works appears again. The seemingly naive formal language of his cheerful, often naked, obscene, free figures tells stories that leave plenty of room for one's own associations.
