To mark this special occasion, the city of Wolfsburg was able to welcome Halberstadt's Lord Mayor Daniel Szarata to the celebrations together with a delegation as a guest of honor. "I am delighted that we are not only celebrating the 86th birthday of our home town today, but also our 35-year town twinning with Halberstadt," emphasized Lord Mayor Dennis Weilmann. "Halberstadt and Wolfsburg have a special connection that has been characterized by mutual trust, respect and recognition from the very beginning. My thanks go to my colleague Daniel Szarata. We benefit from the trusting exchange and cooperation between our cities at all levels and we will continue to deepen and expand our partnership."

Halberstadt's Lord Mayor Daniel Szarata: "The town twinning between Wolfsburg and Halberstadt is a symbol of friendship in action. Together we experienced the beginning of détente between East and West as well as German reunification. The support from Wolfsburg in building new structures will never be forgotten in Halberstadt. It fills us with pride that our partnership can serve as a model for other town twinnings. It is based on friendships that were formed back then and are growing today. It is our responsibility to keep this strong bond together at all times."

The anniversary of the town twinning between Wolfsburg and Halberstadt was honored during a panel discussion. In addition to Dennis Weilmann and Daniel Szarata, the former Mayor of Wolfsburg, Professor Rolf Schnellecke, and the former Minister President of Saxony-Anhalt, Gerd Gies, also took part.
A second panel discussion was dedicated to the topic of "We in Wolfsburg". Mayor Dennis Weilmann, Hauke Stars (Member of the Board of Management of Volkswagen AG responsible for IT) and Daniela Cavallo (Chairwoman of the General and Group Works Council of Volkswagen AG) took part in this discussion.
The event was rounded off with dance performances by TV Jahn Wolfsburg.

35 years of town twinning between Wolfsburg and Halberstadt

On October 24, 1989, even before the opening of the border and reunification, the cities of Wolfsburg and Halberstadt signed a town twinning agreement. This inner-German partnership is still actively practiced today. The agreement was signed at the time by Wolfsburg's Lord Mayor Werner Schlimme and Lord Mayor Prof. Dr. Peter Lamberg as well as Halberstadt's Mayor Herbert Weber.

In the anniversary year, an artist exchange took place in which two artists from each city took part. The first part of the exhibition Opus 35 - a Quartet // Opus 35 - a Quartet was opened at the Hoffmann-von-Fallersleben Museum in Wolfsburg. Halberstadt artists Ilka Leukefeld and Olaf Wegewitz as well as Daniel Szarata were present at the opening in April together with Dennis Weilmann. In the fall, the second part of the exhibition by Wolfsburg artists Martina Hackbarth and Volker Veit will open at the Halberstadt Schraube Museum.
The WMG will have a stand at the park festival in Halberstadt on August 3. In addition, cheerleaders from both cities, including the cheerleaders from VfL Wolfsburg e.V., will perform together on stage.
