Over 330,000 kilometers - record result for city cycling in Wolfsburg
"Wolfsburg has been more successful than ever before. The distance cycled saved a total of 55 tons of carbon dioxide emissions compared to car use. That is an outstanding figure," emphasized First City Councillor and City Planning Councillor Kai-Uwe Hirschheide.
A total of 1,938 active cyclists in 81 teams pedaled together for climate protection. Once again, the schools and the Volkswagen team made a decisive contribution to this, increasing the previous year's result by almost 30,000 to 81,281 kilometers. They were followed by Phoenix-Gymnasium (28,508 kilometers), Theodor-Heuss-Gymnasium (25,807 kilometers) and Ratsgymnasium (22,320 kilometers), also with a significant increase in performance compared to the previous year.
However, teams with less active cyclists also achieved remarkable results. Team Flyer, for example, achieved the highest figure of 935 kilometers per head with two active cyclists, ahead of Team VfB Endurance (nine cyclists with 695 kilometers each) and Team Sisters (two cyclists/ 573 kilometers each). The detailed results can be viewed at stadtradeln.de/wolfsburg.
The prizes for this year's city cycling campaign will be raffled off in the coming weeks among all active cyclists (at least one kilometer cycled). The winners will then be contacted by email with further information.
