Smooth cycling
Major renovation of cycle paths from 2025
Starting next year, we will begin planning - and in some cases already implementing - a comprehensive renovation of several cycle paths. This will also be necessary because some of the cycle paths show considerable damage to the asphalt surface - including displacements, cracks, deformations and cracking.
A basic renewal is planned for the following cycle paths:
- Pedestrian and cycle path, center-west, connecting path, Kölner Ring - Frankfurter Straße
- Pedestrian and cycle path, Mitte-West, connecting path, Semmelweisring
- Footpath and cycle path, Detmerode, connecting path, Robert-Schuman-Straße 6 - Graf-Bernadotte-Weg
- Pedestrian and cycle path, Mitte-West, connecting path, Breslauer Straße 263 - 265
- Cycle path, city center, Heinrich-Heine-Straße
"The maintenance and modernization of our cycle paths is an essential building block for sustainable mobility in Wolfsburg. With the basic renewal, we are ensuring that cyclists can travel safely and comfortably," explains First City Councillor and City Planning Councillor Kai-Uwe Hirschheide. "Our aim is to continuously improve the conditions for cycling in Wolfsburg and to promote the use of bicycles as an environmentally friendly alternative."
Around one million euros is invested annually
Depending on the extent of the damage, partial or complete renovation of the affected cycle paths is planned. However, the final results of the soil surveys, which serve as the basis for the decision, are still pending.
We have set aside an annual budget of one million euros for the renewal of cycle paths, which will be used depending on the specific funding opportunities. For cycle paths with a cost estimate of more than 300,000 euros, appropriate proposals are submitted to Wolfsburg City Council for a decision.
