Dogs must be kept on a leash in forests and copses from December 1 to March 31. The public order office of the city of Wolfsburg points out the corresponding ordinance on public safety. This is intended to protect the resting and retreat areas of wildlife and other free-roaming animals. This applies in the local forests and copses, including groups of trees and hedges, as well as in a 50-meter-wide protective strip around the forest areas, copses and on both sides of hedges and bodies of water in the districts of Wolfsburg. Dogs must therefore be kept on a lead so that they do not stray or poach. Exceptions to this only apply to dogs that are used for regular hunting or by the police as service dogs.

According to the Lower Saxony Forest and Landscape Act, the obligation to keep dogs on a lead continues in the open countryside from April 1 to July 15. The open countryside includes forests and other areas of open countryside, even if they are located within built-up areas, as well as the associated paths and bodies of water, such as the areas around the Schillerteich, Detmeroder Teich (except for the dog run set up there especially for dogs), Neuer Teich, Krummen Teich and Kleiner Schillerteich.

Dogs must be kept on a lead all year round in Wendschotter Drömling, Barnbruch and Ilkerbruch. Dogs must also be kept on a lead in the Allerpark Wolfsburg, with the exception of the dog run set up especially for dogs on the eastern shore of the Allersee. Dogs must generally be kept on a lead in Porschestraße, Sarah-Frenkel-Platz and Willy-Brandt-Platz. Dogs must also be kept on a lead during parades, events, festivals and after dark.

Further regulations, for example nature conservation laws, remain unaffected by the above regulations. Violations of the obligation to keep dogs on a lead constitute administrative offenses that can be punished with a fine.
