360 degree overview

Remote Tower Control Center opened at Braunschweig-Wolfsburg Airport

From now on, air traffic controllers at Braunschweig Airport will be able to keep an overview without having to look out of the tower. The Remote Tower Control Center (RTC Center) was opened today with a festive ceremony including a ribbon-cutting ceremony.

Lord Mayor Dennis Weilmann was also present: "With the RTC Center, we are creating a platform that promotes cooperation between science, research and industry and consolidates our region as a leading innovation location for aviation technology and digitalization. High-precision GPS and positioning technologies are a key technology that goes far beyond flying; they are also used in the Lower Saxony Test Bed for Automated and Connected Driving, for example."

The guests of honor also included Lower Saxony's Minister of Economic Affairs Olaf Lies and Braunschweig's Lord Mayor Dr. Thorsten Kornblum. The implementation of the project represents an important step in Lower Saxony's "Digitalization Master Plan" digital strategy.

A sophisticated camera system on the Braunschweig control tower ensures that air traffic controllers can monitor traffic without having to look out of the tower. High-resolution video cameras provide them with a permanent 360-degree image of the airport.
