Detmerode conservation statutes
Second draft on display - Council decision in June

Detmerode - planned and built in the 1960s as part of an architectural competition - is considered a significant example of late modern architectural design as well as urban and traffic planning. The development is therefore particularly worthy of protection.
"With this draft of the conservation statutes, we have succeeded in taking both sides into account - both the interest in preserving the unique townscape of Detmerode and the redevelopment projects of the Detmerode residents," summarizes Kai-Uwe Hirschheide, First City Councillor and City Planning Officer.
Redevelopment projects must be considered on a case-by-case basis
The Detmerode conservation statute introduces a new test step for building projects, according to which the townscape must not be impaired by structural changes. This criterion supplements the existing building regulations, which remain unchanged.
The requirements under conservation law cannot be generalized across the entire area, but must always be considered on a case-by-case basis. The decisive factor for the assessment is always the condition of the neighborhood in which changes are to be made. For districts that are very homogeneous and original, the requirements are correspondingly higher than for districts that have already been heavily altered. The basis is therefore always the actual appearance and not the original planned state.
Online participation and public event
The revised draft of the conservation statutes with all annexes will now be published. Both online at mein.wolfsburg.de/buergermitwirkung and wolfsburg.de/bebauungsplaene as well as on site. The documents can be viewed and comments submitted from March 24 to April 21 at the Urban Planning and Building Consultancy Division (Town Hall B, 3rd floor, Porschestraße 49) and at the parish office of Stephanus Gemeinde (Detmeroder Markt 6).
In addition, another public event is planned for March 31, 5:30 p.m., at St. Stephen's Church. Once the information and comments have been incorporated, the conservation statutes will go into political consultation. Our aim is for the Wolfsburg City Council to make a decision at its meeting on June 18.
Advisory services to be expanded
In the second half of the year, the range of advisory services already offered by the Urban Planning and Building Advisory Service will be extended to include the possibility of on-site advice on the conservation statutes in Detmerode.
