Vehicles for Nizhyn and Zhovkva

City continues to support Ukrainian solidarity cities

Two rescue vehicles, an ambulance and an emergency ambulance have now been transferred to Nizhyn and Shovkva to support the two Ukrainian solidarity partner cities.

"Wolfsburg will continue to support the partner communities and initiate sustainable projects to improve living conditions on the ground," affirms Lord Mayor Dennis Weilmann. The provision and coordination will be carried out in cooperation with the German Red Cross (DRK) in Berlin and the Ukrainian Red Cross. Thanks to the experience of the aid organizations and their exchange, the monetary donations can be used efficiently.

"We want to use cash donations to buy urgently needed goods locally in a targeted and efficient manner," explains Thorsten Rückert, board member of the Wolfsburg district branch of the German Red Cross. Ralf Krüger, Chairman of the Council, for whom this project is a matter close to his heart, adds: "This also saves us the high transportation costs and allows us to provide aid more quickly and directly. Every donation, whether large or small, helps to alleviate the suffering of the local people."

The procurement of the vehicles was financed by Engagement Global's Small Projects Fund with its Service Agency Communities in One World (SKEW) on behalf of and with funds from the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development. Funds amounting to 48,000 euros were approved.

In addition, since March 2024, the city has delivered a total of around 300,000 euros worth of material goods to the Ukrainian solidarity partner cities and used around 274,000 euros in funding from the SKEW and the Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) for support. As a provider of international cooperation services, GIZ supports the German government in achieving its goals in international cooperation for sustainable development. The relief supplies include vehicles, materials for the municipal building yard and solar street lamps.
