Important impulses

Lord Mayor Dennis Weilmann on the coalition agreement of the new federal government

The proposal for the coalition agreement for the new federal government makes Dennis Weilmann, Lord Mayor of Wolfsburg, confident: "The new federal government's priorities are correct and important. I can see a clear roadmap for the next four years." It is time to regain confidence in the government's ability to act and to ensure stability and planning certainty in order to enable economic growth and social cohesion.

The looming trade conflict with the USA and Russia's war of aggression against Ukraine are currently putting tried and tested mechanisms and processes to the test. The clear commitment to Germany as an industrial location and to the automotive industry is therefore an important signal for Wolfsburg and the region. The future German government would like to support the automotive industry with a series of measures. In addition to short-term measures such as purchase incentives for electric cars, this also includes long-term measures such as the continuation of the regional transformation network in south-eastern Lower Saxony or the expansion of autonomous driving into regular operation. Wolfsburg is particularly excited about the planned promotion of battery cells and their recycling. "With the establishment of a university and innovation campus on the topic of the circular economy, we are benefiting from the federal government's measures," reports the head of the city. In the future, mechanical and plant engineering in the field of recycling will establish itself as another economic mainstay in Wolfsburg.

The city of Wolfsburg already sees itself as a pioneer in many of the areas that the federal government is now focusing on. "We have been driving forward the expansion of the city's digital infrastructure for years and are at the forefront of fiber optic expansion and the development of a smart city compared to other German municipalities," reports the Lord Mayor. The city welcomes the fact that the German government now wants to tackle the digital transformation across the board with a digital ministry.

Another important point is the reduction of bureaucracy and the speed of approval processes. Here, too, the city of Wolfsburg has already proven with the plans for the Trinity plant that it can react quickly when major industrial projects are pending. The city of Wolfsburg welcomes the fact that the federal government now wants to reduce further bureaucratic hurdles and optimize the funding rules and their implementation.
