Board of Management Department II

Education Department

Department Head Iris Bothe

Everyone has a right to education - from the very beginning Stadträtin Iris Bothe
of life. We consistently implement this credo in Wolfsburg and invest almost every second euro of the municipal budget in lifelong education, even in economically difficult years: We continue to build new daycare centers, invest in early language education and continuously train our educational specialists, because the amount of knowledge and skills that children can acquire through play in their first years of life is huge - and is a decisive factor in their later success at school.

We are building, renovating or extending schools and investing in extracurricular learning spaces and non-formal education in order to offer our schoolchildren the best possible conditions for a successful (school) education. All elementary school in Wolfsburg are all-day schools with excellent afternoon programs - no other city in Lower Saxony offers such an all-day program. In terms of secondary schools, we offer all types of school: with a choice between Hauptschule, Realschule and Oberschule, Gymnasium and integrated comprehensive schools and individual support geared towards the talents of children and young people, we enable the best possible equality of opportunity and participation.

Adult and senior citizens' education, which is supported by many different institutions, offers numerous suitable opportunities for an individual expansion of knowledge, because in Wolfsburg you are never too old for a good question and can maintain your curiosity in many different ways.

No German city the size of Wolfsburg has invested more money in education in the last 10 years than we have - because we are convinced that education is the key to a healthy, self-determined and happy life.

Yours, Iris Bothe
