Office starts planning the redesign of Kleistpark
Green space around the indoor pool to offer more quality of stay in future
"Making our city center more attractive is one of our central themes. The upgrading of Kleistpark pays off in exactly this way. We are creating a place here that invites people to linger and contributes to improving the quality of life in the entire city center," affirms Mayor Dennis Weilmann. "Our goal is to complete the redesign of a section of Kleistpark by the end of 2027," says First City Councillor and City Planning Councillor Kai-Uwe Hirschheide, outlining the further schedule.
"This is an exciting project for us because it involves the revitalization of underused urban spaces. The Kleistpark is more or less in a deep sleep, but it has great potential," emphasizes planner Matthias Funk from scape Landschaftsarchitekten. Employees of the firm came to Wolfsburg for the kick-off workshop on November 5 to discuss the requirements with representatives of the relevant authorities. The basic principles are to be determined and the cost framework reviewed by the end of 2024. The decision on the project is to be presented to the council in spring 2025.
An appraisal process had already been carried out as part of the previous Perspektive Innenstadt! The task was to create a design and usage concept for the gradual implementation of an attractive inner-city neighborhood park. With funds from the funding program and the municipal budget, this result is to be followed by in-depth design planning and the park will then be redesigned accordingly.
