Hard at work during the vacation season

"We only ever have small windows of time during the year for necessary projects on our most important traffic routes. Only during the vacations can we accept many of these closures without risking a complete standstill in traffic," explains First City Councillor and City Planning Councillor Kai-Uwe Hirschheide. "Nevertheless, we are of course aware that there will be traffic disruptions as a result of the construction work. Unfortunately, it is not possible to improve the condition of the roads without roadworks. By implementing several measures at the same time, however, we want to keep the impact on road users to a minimum in terms of time and we can reopen all roads at the end of the vacations."
For this reason, several construction projects will also be implemented during this year's summer vacation period. The following list provides an overview of the projects:
Work on the new cycle path has been underway since February. The construction work is on schedule and will be completed by mid-August.
Until July 15, the current traffic routing will remain in place with one-way traffic inbound - i.e. coming from the direction of Nordsteimke. Out of town, the current traffic routing will remain in place until June 24 via Berliner Ring, Dieselstraße, L290 and K111 to Nordsteimke. This detour route is affected by the construction work at the St. Annen junction (see previous section) - as it is not possible to turn off the Berliner Ring onto Dieselstraße. For this reason, the detour from June 24 to July 12 will be via Berliner Ring, Reislinger Straße/Sandkrugstraße to the traffic circle, Käthe-Paulus-Straße and then back to the original detour via Dieselstraße.
From July 15, the intersection of Nordsteimker Straße and Erich-Bammel-Weg - the junction at the Shell petrol station - will have to be completely closed. As a result, Nordsteimker Straße will be closed in both directions and it will no longer be possible to drive through from Nordsteimke until the end of the roadworks. Traffic will then be routed from both directions via the original detour route. This is possible because the construction work at the St. Annen junction will be completed by then, so that traffic will once again be routed via the Berliner Ring and Dieselstraße.
There is good news for residents of Steimker Berg: once this construction phase begins, Steimker Berg will be accessible again from the direction of Nordsteimke via Ahornweg and from the city center via Unter den Eichen. However, only local residents are permitted to drive through.
All information on this construction project is available online at wolfsburg.de/nordsteimkerstrasse.
Between July 15 and August 2, Heinrich-Heine-Straße will be fully closed between the junction with Braunschweiger Straße/Schillerstraße and beyond the eastern junction with Klieverhagen Straße (at the Neue Schule). However, the streets Klieverhagen (western junction) and Lönsstraße will remain accessible, as will the area around the CongressPark. The detour will run in both directions via Laagbergstraße, Stadtwaldstraße, Hochring, Röntgenstraße and Braunschweiger Straße.
This construction measure will also only start after the St. Annen junction has been completed, as Heinrich-Heine-Straße will be used as a detour.
From June 24 to August 10, the Lower Saxony State Authority for Road Construction and Transport will be renovating the B188/Helmstedter Straße between the Am Drömling road and the traffic circle in the direction of Velpke. The residential area remains accessible at all times, the commercial area can be reached from the east via a detour via Marie-Curie-Allee.
Neuhäuser Straße is not affected by the closure, meaning that the route from Vorsfelde in the direction of Reislingen and vice versa remains fully accessible. Traffic will also be diverted along this road. The detour route runs in both directions from the junction of B188/Helmstedter Straße at the corner of Neuhäuser Straße via Neuhäuser Straße and then via Marie-Curie-Allee along the Vogelsang industrial estate to Helmstedter Straße (B188).
From July 15 to August 2, Heinrich-Nordhoff-Straße will only be open to one lane of traffic in both directions between the intersections with Saarstraße and Lessingstraße. Traffic will be diverted in both directions via the northbound lane. During the construction period, Lessingstraße will not be connected to Heinrich-Nordhoff-Straße. A turning area will be set up in Lessingstraße in front of the construction site. Traffic will be diverted onto Heinrich-Nordhoff-Straße via Saarstraße.
Wolfsburger Verkehrs Gesellschaft (WVG) provides information about the rerouting of bus routes due to the summer roadworks on its website at https://www.wvg.de/.
An overview of all construction measures and the corresponding detour can be found online at wolfsburg.de/sommerbaustellen. There you will also find links to the information websites for Nordsteimker Straße and the St. Annen junction.
