The 2024 funding program for investments in solar power generation is currently being processed and no new funding applications can be submitted.

The city of Wolfsburg is planning another funding program for 2025. More detailed information on this will be available at the beginning of 2025.

  • FAQ - Frequently asked questions
  • I have submitted my application for funding - what happens next?

After all funding applications have been reviewed, the eligible applications are drawn by lot. All applicants will then receive notification of whether or not they are eligible for funding.

    • After installation of the system or completion of the measure, you can submit all final documents (= proof of use) via online application.

The funding can only be paid out after the proof of use has been positively checked and the budget has been approved.

  • What documents are required for the funding application and by when can I submit them?

For a plug-in PV system: Screenshot / photo of the intended planned system including technical details.

ForPV systems from 1 kWp: The respective cost estimate.

For a solar power storage system ≥ 3kWh: The respective cost estimate.

All documents must be submitted with the application, otherwise the application cannot be considered.

  • Can I start the measure before submitting the application?

No, the purchase of components, the commissioning of companies and the installation of the system may only be implemented after the funding application has been submitted. It is therefore not possible to submit a funding application retrospectively.

  • By when must the measure be completed and the application for payment submitted?

The measure or the installation of the system should be completed in the respective funding year and the application for payment submitted.

  • I will not be able to complete the measure in the funding year - What now?

If you are unable to complete the funded measure in the respective funding year, please send a brief notification including a short justification. Whether the funding can continue beyond the funding year will be reviewed on an individual basis.

  • When is the grant paid out?

The grant can only be paid out once the application for payment has been approved.

  • What documents are required as proof of use?

You can find out which documents you need to submit under point 9 in the funding guidelines.

After completion of the measure, copies of the original invoices and a confirmation that the system is ready for commissioning (commissioning report) must be submitted.

If you have any problems submitting the application for payment, please contact the City of Wolfsburg's climate protection team (e-mail: klimaschutz@stadt.wolfsburg.de).

  • Can the city of Wolfsburg recommend electricians/specialist companies?

Unfortunately, we cannot help you find a company. You can find electricians via the tradesman search of the Chamber of Crafts or via the Wolfsburg Electrical Engineering Guild.

  • Solar cadastre

Here you can find out whether the roof of your house is suitable for the use of solar energy. Investing in solar power systems is an investment in the future. They contribute to the energy transition and help protect the climate.

Buildings that are suitable for solar power generation are marked in red, orange or yellow on the solar cadastre map. The chapter "What the map says" contains further information on this.

Do you want to install a solar system on the roof of your building? Then read on in the chapter "Investing in solar power systems".

You agree to the terms of use below.

    Terms of use

The use of the solar cadastre is intended exclusively for private purposes. Commercial use is prohibited. The data shown for the buildings is protected by copyright and may not be passed on to third parties.

  • What does the solar cadastre data tell us?

    Photovoltaics

All roofs on which it is possible to make sensible use of solar radiation through solar power systems have been recorded and evaluated.

The orientation and inclination of the roofs are primarily decisive for utilization. Shading from trees and neighboring buildings was also taken into account. Shading is primarily a problem for solar power systems. A shadow on a small part of the system can already lead to a considerable drop in performance in the overall system. An assessment was therefore only carried out for roofs on which there is a contiguous shadow-free area of at least 10 square meters.

The usable roof areas are assigned. The color green indicates "very good", orange "good" and yellow "conditional" use. The usable area of the roof is also shown for representations at a scale of 1 : 2000 and above. The values of a roof area can be displayed by clicking on the blue i button in the toolbar.

The data acquisition and calculation method does not allow absolute certainty for the evaluation of roof areas. It is always worth taking a look at the roof. Sometimes a minor change, such as moving ventilation pipes, is enough to make a roof area suitable for solar energy or to increase the area shown.

    Solar thermal systems

The calculations have been carried out for the installation of solar power systems. The marked areas are also suitable for solar thermal systems. Solar water heating systems are not sensitive to slight shading. A roof may therefore be suitable for solar thermal systems, even if it has not been assessed and is shown in gray on the map.

  • Promotion of solar thermal systems

Solar thermal systems are subsidized by the Federal Office of Economics and Export Control (BAFA).

Information on the BAFA funding program and the necessary application forms can be obtained directly from BAFA under the keyword "Renewable energies".

  • Investment in photovoltaics

Solar power systems are a safe investment, as they provide a predictable return on investment thanks to the feed-in tariff. Once contractually agreed, the feed-in tariffs are granted over a period of 20 years.

Approximate yields from PV systems can be calculated using solar calculators.

In Wolfsburg, the Wolfsburg Energy Agency will help you free of charge with questions about investing in and promoting solar energy.

  • Statistics on Wolfsburg's solar potential

Wolfsburg's roofs offer great potential for the use of solar energy. Over 2.6 million square meters of roof area in total have been identified in the categories "very suitable", "well suitable" and "partially suitable". This could generate 263,000 megawatt hours of electricity per year. This amount of electricity would avoid 114,000 tons of carbon dioxide, which corresponds to almost ¼ of Wolfsburg's emissions (excluding Volkswagen).

  • Delete data

As the owner, you can have the valuation of your building deleted. All you need to do is send an informal written notification stating your address and a declaration that you are the owner of the building.

    Postal address:

You can copy the following sample text into your letter:

Subject: Deletion of solar energy data

I request that the solar potential data of my building, Musterstraße xx, be deleted.
I declare that I am the owner of the building.
