The main approach to climate protection is to reduce the emission of greenhouse gases that are released through energy consumption in buildings and companies, in transportation, in private households and also in industrial and agricultural production.
The 100% Climate Protection Master Plan is intended to create a comprehensive concept for the city of Wolfsburg that demonstrates a complete reduction in these greenhouse gas emissions (CO2 emissions). The Lower Saxony Act on the Promotion of Climate Protection and Mitigation of the Consequences of Climate Change (NKlimaG) is taken into account here and aims to achieve a climate-neutral reduction in greenhouse gas emissions by 2040.
The master plan comprises a large number of measures and projects in the areas of energy supply, buildings, industry, mobility and consumption. Through innovative technologies, the expansion of renewable energies, increasing energy efficiency and promoting sustainable behavior, the city of Wolfsburg aims to play a pioneering role in climate protection. The concept is being developed with broad-based stakeholder participation. The aim is to develop recommendations for action in cooperation with citizens, companies, industry, housing associations, energy suppliers, nature conservation associations and political bodies.
An essential part of the concept development is a comprehensive inventory of existing structures. In the heating, building and mobility sectors, the associated CO emissions are recorded and balanced
(BISKO standard). The starting balance is the year 1990, with data from the reference year 2022 being evaluated.
The results can be used to identify targeted savings potential in the various sectors and derive specific measures.
In addition to the description of measures, a continuation strategy with regular monitoring and controlling is important for the implementation of the concept.
The existing data, proposed measures, findings and circumstances of the city of Wolfsburg should be incorporated into the master plan concept.
